Fire steel

The fire steel was created in the 1940s in the Swedish army. It consists of a magnesium-containing steel alloy, which guarantees that you can really ignite a fire in any weather. Operation is totally simple. Quickly rub the back of the blade of a knife on the firesteel, creating small sparks. Use these sparks to ignite tinder in the form of small dry chips.
